{"id":367,"date":"2009-10-22T23:22:11","date_gmt":"2009-10-23T03:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aaronwood.us\/?p=367"},"modified":"2009-10-22T23:31:18","modified_gmt":"2009-10-23T03:31:18","slug":"367","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.aaronwood.us\/?p=367","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;I Get By with a Little Help from My Friends&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What a wonderful day!\u00a0\u00a0 This morning, I, along with Aaron&#8217;s Aunt Den, Aaron&#8217;s cousin Bill and his girlfriend Danielle, got to Magee at approximately 9:30.\u00a0 When we arrived, Aaron was still in bed, but was wide awake and off the vent and on the trach collar (and had been for about an hour and a half).\u00a0\u00a0He had just eaten his breakfast.\u00a0 Aaron&#8217;s physical therapist\u00a0and I planned on her coming to Aaron&#8217;s room at 10:00 AM so she could give me another training session on preparing\u00a0Aaron for his day.\u00a0\u00a0That went very well and Aaron handled it beautifully.\u00a0 I am not as quick as those who normally do this for him, so he had to endure lying flat on his back a little longer than normal and also on his side, which he doesn&#8217;t tolerate very well.\u00a0\u00a0 But he and I are still speaking, so I consider it to be a success!<\/p>\n<p>Aaron played Nintendo Wii today, which was very interesting.\u00a0 The therapist held the remote on his head and he moved his head to point\u00a0 it in the right direction.\u00a0\u00a0She would push the buttons on the remote to get it to shoot or do whatever she needed it to do.\u00a0 It was great exercise for his neck muscles, but really wore him out.\u00a0\u00a0 But he did enjoy himself!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aaron was also graced with the presence of his good friend, Brian Sullivan, today.\u00a0\u00a0 Aaron hadn&#8217;t seen Brian for a couple of weeks, but it was quite a bit longer than that since he&#8217;d seen Bill and Danielle.\u00a0 He was THRILLED to have his friends with him today.\u00a0 Aunt Den and I sort of removed ourselves as much as possible so the young &#8216;unz could enjoy each other and catch up.\u00a0\u00a0 They took turns going to therapy with him.\u00a0 At one point, the girls left the room because the guys fell asleep;\u00a0 Brian in Aaron&#8217;s bed, Aaron in his wheelchair, and Bill in a regular chair.\u00a0\u00a0 Brian made out on that deal.\u00a0 (Sorry, Brian.\u00a0 No\u00a0picture of you in Ern&#8217;s bed, I only post those at\u00a0his request and he didn&#8217;t ask!)<\/p>\n<p>After the guys woke up, Aaron was rejuvenated.\u00a0\u00a0 He was more alert and happier than I had seen him in a long time!\u00a0 I think it was a combination of the sleep and then waking up and seeing some of his favorite people right there with him.\u00a0 It was not only good for his soul, it was good for everybody&#8217;s soul\u00a0who observed it.\u00a0\u00a0 If you\u00a0ever doubted the importance of friendship in your life, you never\u00a0had the opportunity to see what I saw today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is magic in the memory of schoolboy friendships;
